Dear LC Families,
Lewis County Schools will be returning to a full five day in-person learning environment for the 2021-22 school year. One valuable lesson learned from last year, is that our students learn and are more successful in a classroom environment with an in-person instructor.
Face coverings will be recommended, but not required, for all individuals inside a Lewis County building and outside on our school property when social distancing cannot be maintained. Masking and other safety requirements will remain fluid as we monitor transmission rates within our communities and schools. We will make adjustments as needed and/or directed. Lewis County Schools will continue to follow West Virginia DHHR guidance in regard to isolation and quarantine. Our nurses will work in collaboration with our local health officials for the safety and well-being of our students and staff.
Lewis County Schools will maintain physical distancing as much as possible within the school setting. Good hand hygiene is still an important mitigation strategy for general health considerations. We will also continue the COVID related cleaning strategies implemented in our schools last year.
All Lewis County students are expected to attend school in-person for the 2021-2022 school year. We will revert to our pre-COVID virtual options. This may include electives, AP courses and courses that are not available at the county level. However, we realize we have medically fragile students which may require consideration for a full virtual option. We have purchased a limited number of seats from a third-party vendor through the Southern Educational Services Cooperative and Proximity Learning to accommodate this small, select population. Please note the teachers of the virtual classes are NOT Lewis County teachers, and all classes will be taught and tested entirely by teachers hired by Proximity Learning. Also of note is that this learning option requires a fast and consistent internet connection. More information on this, as well as how to sign up, will be released in the near future.
The Lewis County Health Department is offering free COVID-19 vaccinations for any Lewis County resident ages 12 and up. If you are interested, please contact the Health Department to schedule an appointment at 304-269-8218.
We look forward to welcoming our students back to school.
Best wishes,
Dr. Lewis
