On 8 March 2024, eight members of the Lewis County High School traveled to Fairmont State University and competed in the West Virginia Academic Showdown Regional Championships. The West Virginia Academic Showdown is an academic head-to-head competition that brings West Virginia high school students from across the state testing their knowledge of math, history, fine arts, pop culture and more, showcasing their academic prowess and critical thinking skills. The Academic Showdown is a partnership between the West Virginia Department of Education (WVDE), the West Virginia Higher Education Policy Commission, West Virginia Public Broadcasting and the West Virginia Department of Arts, Culture and History. Lewis County High School fielded two teams and competed against teams from Braxton County High School, Bridgeport High School, Grafton High School, Liberty High School, Paden City High School, Weir High School, and Williamstown High School. Grafton High School Team One captured first place and Bridgeport High School Team Two capturing second place. During this competition, students made new connections, learned teamwork, and got the opportunity to explore opportunities and the campus of Fairmont State University.
