Robert Bland Middle School held their 10th Annual Pickleball Tournament on May 19th. The event was sponsored by RAZE, which is a WV teen group that educates youth on the dangers of tobacco and vaping. The afterschool event is open to any 7th and 8th grade student. Teams are made up of 2 players and the tournament is played in double elimination style.
There was a total of 35 teams signed up to play and several staff members stayed to help referee the games and work the concession stand. RLBMS would like to thank Weston McDonalds for their donation of hamburgers, cheeseburgers and chicken nuggets. There was no cost to the students for anything.
The students ate well, played hard and had a great time with their friends and the staff! In the end, an 8th grade team, Lucia Zavala and Eli Jones took home the first-place victory! They won a huge jar of pickles, pickle chips, a trophy, t-shirt and bragging rights for a year! Runners up in a very close final game were 8th graders, Brody Skinner and Owen DeBarr.
